Research question

How should XRP supply be classified, and what can public ledger balances reliably reveal about distribution and ownership?

XRP total supply, circulating supply, escrow, fee destruction and address balances answer different questions. Public balances can measure concentration by address, but ownership requires separate evidence because custodians aggregate users and one controller may use many addresses.

01 / Findings

What the evidence answers.

  1. 01

Supply categories require explicit definitions and observation dates.

  2. 02

An XRPL address is not equivalent to one beneficial owner.

  3. 03

Escrow release, transfer, distribution and market sale are separate events.

02 / Analysis

How much XRP exists

The ledger can establish total XRP at a validated state, while circulating-supply classifications depend on a documented provider or analytical methodology.

XRP was created at ledger inception rather than mined over time. Transaction costs permanently destroy small amounts of XRP, while escrow changes when specified ledger transactions finish or cancel.

The research reconciles total, provider-reported circulation, known escrow, cumulative fee destruction and unclassified balances without forcing uncertain holdings into a convenient category.

03 / Analysis

What XRP distribution data can prove

It can describe address balance bands and verified labels; it cannot identify every owner or economic beneficiary.

Exchange omnibus accounts, custodians, internal accounting and unidentified related addresses can distort concentration measures. XRPAuthority therefore publishes known, inferred and unknown classifications separately.

Named attribution requires direct issuer disclosure, cryptographic/domain evidence, court or regulatory records, or another documented source strong enough to support the specific claim.

Methodology

How this XRP research was built.

  1. Use validated-ledger state and timestamp every snapshot.
  2. Reconcile supply categories without double counting.
  3. Publish address-attribution source and confidence separately from balances.
